Tyrangiel's approach is reportorial rather than evangelistic: instead of arguing for AI in the abstract, he follows specific people — clinicians, IRS staff, a Pentagon office, an Indiana high school — who backed into using it to solve a narrow, tangible problem, often without any technical background. That ground-level focus is the book's real contribution in a genre otherwise dominated by utopian or apocalyptic framing; he's candid about the risks without letting them swamp the reporting. The tradeoff is scope — by concentrating on institutional success stories, the book says less about labor displacement or harder structural questions.
