Two decades on, Dweck's central distinction between fixed and growth mindsets has become so embedded in schools and corporate training that it's easy to forget how much of the underlying research has since been contested. Independent replication attempts, particularly large-scale studies of classroom interventions, have consistently found effects far smaller than the original studies implied, and critics have pointed to survivorship bias in the book's illustrative anecdotes. Dweck herself has engaged with the criticism rather than dismissing it. The book's core insight about effort and feedback still has value; the packaging oversold its certainty.
